On Friday, just eleven days after taking over from Rachel Reeves as the new Chancellor of the Exchequer, John Healey, announced via a video message posted to Instagram, that the date of the next Budget will be on Wednesday 28 October 2026.
In his video message, the Chancellor said ‘This government is working fast to restore hope and back Britain’s communities’.
In just under 3 months, John Healy will set out his first Budget since becoming chancellor in Andy Burnham’s government. With such a short run-up, the chancellor is perhaps wary of what can happen when choosing a later date, after the amount of speculation that arose in the run up to last year’s November Budget.
The Chancellor continued by stating ‘This will be a Budget that moves money and power out of Westminster, and into every postcode around Britain. It will be built on fiscal discipline. It will meet our fiscal rules. It’ll give businesses and families some of the stability they need to plan for the future’.
